Best Offline Block Puzzle Games
What to look for in an offline block puzzle, including Gridlight: a local deal, a daily seed, and no account required to play.

Offline means the deal is on the device
A block puzzle is offline when the board, the pieces, and the rules run without a round trip. Many games in this genre still call home for the next tray, a leaderboard, or an ad before the first move. That is a different product. If the plane icon kills the puzzle, it was not an offline game.
The useful test is simple. Turn the radio off, open the game, and finish a board. Then force-quit and open it again. The score and the level should still be there. A title screen that waits on a spinner is telling you the puzzle lives on a server.
What we would ask of any of them
Fairness is the second test. The tray should be chosen from the board and a seed, not from your score. A game that gets crueller because you are doing well is a different hobby. You should also be able to see where a piece will land before you commit. A ghost, or some other preview, is part of playing well rather than a luxury.
A daily puzzle is a nice extra only if the seed is known on the device. A UTC date is enough. You should not need an account to receive today’s board. Sudoku, nonograms, and solitaire have set this expectation for years: the puzzle is local, and a streak is a convenience, not a login.
Where Gridlight sits in that list
Gridlight is our game, so this is not a neutral ranking of other people’s products. Here is what it actually does. The board is eight by eight. Classic ends when the tray cannot fit. Zen replaces that tray. There are 112 seeded levels. Daily Light is twenty trays from one UTC seed, and a second run the same day does not replace the score. None of that reads the network.
Cloud save, ads, and store purchases do need a connection, and we say so in the privacy note. The puzzle does not. If you want a block puzzle on a train or in airplane mode, start with those checks. Gridlight’s board does not need wifi. The website has an eight-move taster, and the full game is on the way to the stores.
