Place a piece, then clear the full lines

Gridlight is a block puzzle on an eight-by-eight board. A tray holds the pieces you can place. Drag one onto empty cells. If it overlaps a filled cell, the board refuses it and the piece stays in the tray. Nothing is lost for trying a square that does not fit.

A row clears when all eight cells in that row are filled. A column clears the same way. One placement can finish a row and a column together when the piece covers the last empty cells of both. The ghost under your finger shows the landing, and the lines that would clear, before you let go.

Classic, zen, and the level path

Classic ends when none of the pieces in the tray fit. That is the whole fail state. There is no timer and no move limit. Zen is the same board with one difference: a tray that cannot fit is replaced, so the run does not end. Use zen when you want to practise shapes without watching a score die.

The journey is 112 levels in eight worlds, fourteen levels each. A level asks for lines, a score, or a special clear. Stars stay once you earn them. The first world is Dusk Gate. You can leave a level and come back; the path remembers the stars, and the next level stays locked until you have opened it.

What the tray will not do

The next three pieces come from the board, a seeded random word, and a short memory of recent shapes so the same family does not run forever. Score, streak, ads, and the network are not inputs. A bad run does not make the next tray meaner, and a good run does not make it kinder.

You can play that loop with no wifi. Cloud save, an optional ad, and a store purchase are the features that need a connection. The puzzle itself does not. The website taster is eight moves of these same rules and does not keep a score after you leave. Levels and Daily Light are in the app.
