Practical Gridlight strategy: read the crossing lines, keep a parking bay, and choose the clear that leaves the next tray a home.

Look at the row and the column together

Before you drop a piece, name the row and the column it will touch. A nearly finished line is tempting, but a piece that completes it and seals the only open lane is often the move that ends the run. The better question is which empty cells two lines share, and whether one piece covers those cells without colliding.

If no shape finishes both lines, clear one and leave the other with a clean edge. A single clear that keeps a three-cell gap is worth more than a double clear that breaks the board into one-cell holes. Wide pieces need a horizontal run. Tall pieces need a vertical run. Do not spend both in the same turn.

Keep one parking bay

Late in a classic game the board fails because every open area is a different size. Pick one region, about three by three, and treat it as a parking bay. Put awkward pieces there only when they also finish a line. The rest of the board can be tighter, because the bay is where the next unknown shape can land.

When two moves both clear a line, picture the board each one leaves. Prefer the one that still accepts at least two of the pieces still in the tray. Gridlight shows the ghost and the lines that would clear, so you can check the landing without committing. Use that preview. Guessing from the tray alone is how a five-wide piece gets stranded.

Use the mode that matches the decision

Classic is the test: the run ends when the tray cannot fit, so every sealed gap matters. Zen replaces a tray that cannot fit, which makes it a place to try a risky clear and see the board you would have died on. Levels ask for a specific goal, so a pretty clear that ignores the goal is a wasted move.

Daily Light is twenty trays and then the result. You cannot grind it. Plan the first few trays to open a bay, spend the middle trays on clean clears, and do not chase a perfect board on tray eighteen if the score is already safe. The same seed is shared by everyone that UTC day, so the strategy is the only thing that differs.
