Daily Block Puzzle Challenge

How Gridlight’s Daily Light works: one UTC seed, twenty trays, one scored attempt, and a practice run that does not replace it.

One seed for the UTC day

Daily Light is Gridlight’s daily block puzzle. The seed is the UTC date, so two phones on the same UTC day get the same trays in the same order. The number on the card, such as Daily Light #290, is the day of the year for that date. Tomorrow’s board is a different seed. Yesterday’s result stays yesterday’s.

You do not download the puzzle. The date on the device is enough, which is why Daily Light still starts with no wifi. If the phone’s clock is wrong, the day will be wrong. That is the trade for not having a server hand you the board.

Twenty trays, then the result

A Daily Light run deals trays until you have placed twenty of them. When the twentieth tray is emptied, the run completes and the score locks. It is not an endless classic game with a calendar sticker. The limit is what makes two players comparable: same pieces, same number of trays, different choices.

You get one scored attempt each UTC day. Open the daily again after that and the game will let you practise, but the practice score does not replace the one already stored. The home screen counts down to the next UTC midnight. A streak counts days you completed, not days you merely opened the app.

How to spend the twenty

Treat the first trays as rent. Open a parking bay and clear the obvious lines. The middle trays are where a double clear pays, because you still have pieces coming and can repair a hole. The last trays are for survival: do not trade the only open lane for a flashy clear you cannot follow.

When you share a result, the text carries the day number, the score, and the streak. It does not carry the board. Friends who want the same puzzle open Daily Light in the app on their own device. The website taster is a short round with the same placement rules, not today’s shared seed.
